We don't have many rules, but we do ask that you follow the ones that we have in place.
1.) Please be courteous. Members here come from all walks of life and all stages of life. While it's impossible to avoid offending everyone, please do your best. Keep swearing to a minimum and keep personal fights to yourself.
2.) No spam. No repeatedly posting the same message, bumping a thread multiple times, or advertising something unrelated. The definition of spam is up to the discretion of the moderators.
3.) Take things with a grain of salt. We all have room for improvement; even pros still take acting classes. If you feel as if someone is unfairly critiquing you, then just resolve to give them nothing to complain about next time.
4.) One account per person. One person per account.
5.) Use your brain. We can't cover every possible infraction here, so please try to use common sense when posting.

But here are a few guidelines that will likely make your life easier.
1.) Spend some time on it. Don't just throw it together. We want to hear your best, and so do potential employers. You wouldn't throw together a resume at the last minute on a torn sheet of notebook paper. So don't throw together a demo reel. We have plenty of hints and tips on making a good demo reel under "articles," so check them out.
2.) Be yourself. Don't do your "Ash from Pokemon" voice or your best impression of Spongebob Squarepants. We want to hear your unique voice, and most directors and agents aren't interested in someone who doesn't sound original. The only exception is if you're doing an impressions reel, in which case keep in mind that unless you're talking Looney Toons, cartoon impressions aren't high on the scale of needs. An impressions reel is much more likely to have Sean Connery or George W. Bush than Inuyasha.
3.) Take critiques with grace. We do our best to make you the best! Any advice we offer is meant to help you improve. We're not trying to tear you down. Remember, we're here to see you succeed. If you think someone is specifically trolling you, PM a moderator and we'll look into it.
4.) Find a streaming host. It's not a requirement, but you are much more likely to get listeners if they don't have to download your reel. Some people like to use YouTube (although a video demo reel is absolutely not a requirement), but other good places to look include 4shared and box.
5.) Format properly. While not necessary, you'll make everyone's life a lot happier if you make your title something like [name] [year] [demo type]. e.g. Francis Bacon 2009 CommericalSo, you want to post your demo reel? Fantastic! We want to hear it.

It is that ever needed push in the right direction when it comes to voice acting, and it will allow you to develop and display your own voice. Voice over isn't a job for the weak-willed. It requires tireless strength, a lot of practice, and a dash of luck to make it in this ever-growing field. Do you have the desire, but that's pretty much it? Rising Star is for you. Our Rising Star coaches are there to help, giving you the right tools of the trade, and a shot to show how much you improved over the training period. So if you consider yourself to be a newbie, or just someone who needs some advice, please sign up for Rising Star. You'll be happy that you did. Good luck to you all!
Rising Star is divided up into sections:
Skype Sessions: A chance to get some vocal analysis and evaluation. It has the potential of giving you that exact bit of info to fix those tricky spots.
Homework: If you sign up for Rising Star, you have to have time to record. Certain vocal exercises and other such things will be given to each member, allowing them to practice there craft outside of the sessions. Although not required, doing the assignment with results will allow you the chance to be part of the next section.
Radioplay: You've worked hard to improve yourself, refining those rough edges of your voice quality and delivery, so what's next? To show yourself and everyone else how far you've come. These radioplays will be performed my members of Rising Star after they have met the approval of either myself or one of the other Rising Star coaches. Don't let that scare you though, as our discretion is talent and drive base. You show us that you want it, and you get it. Don't feel bad if your performance isn't up to snuff either. The radioplays are still within the grounds of an exercise, so just get back to the training and give it another shot when you are ready.
See? Very simple and fun. If you have any questions about Rising Star, ask either me or one of the other mods, and we would be happy to help. If you are looking to join, then please click the "Join Rising Stars" icon on your left, and fill out the necessary fields. I actually have a lot of trouble with pronouncing certain sounds correctly. I had a retainer through high school and college which left me with a slurry lisp. Not good for voice acting at all. I've worked really hard with a speech coach to train it out, but when I get nervous it comes back again. So I have to make sure that I'm cool in the booth, otherwise, my "s" sounds come out wrong.Alright, I guess I'll start. XD

I joined this website because I love the purpose of it. I'm interested in the joining the Rising Stars sessions, but I'm afraid I won't really have much time until late August. Until then, I guess I'll stick around and keep practicing on the things I really need to work on the most~

Chuckling, snickering, giggling, small chortles... Those aren't bad, but when it comes to loud, boisterous laughing, I struggle a lot. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to go about making such a laugh sound realistic. I've been told a lot of it has to do with breathing control, but I can't seem to grasp it very well at all. I've even attempted to watch really funny videos and just record my reaction, but my natural laugh isn't very loud at all. I don't know how to explain it, but I have one of those laughs where I laugh in, not out, and outward laughs are usually the ones that are needed. I've tried various different breathing exercises, but I end up getting really light-headed if I work at this too much for too long, so I have a feeling that I'm doing something wrong. My biggest weakness is most definitely laughing.
